The ELIE BLEU workshops were opened in 1976 in the heart of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, the cradle of Parisian artistic woodwork. Specialising in making wooden ornaments, the company became well-known in the French market producing objects for the most prestigious Parisian luxury companies. At the same time, it started making its first cigar cases. It was impossible at the time to imagine that these objects would go on to become the company's leading product.
ELIE BLEU gradually imposed its style and brand on the national market and first ventured abroad at the beginning of the 1990s. Cigar sales took off in the USA. An American journalist discovered the ELIE BLEU cigar cases which he immediately recommanded to his readers. He went on to found the first and biggest magazine for cigar lovers. ELIE BLEU enjoyed tremendous success. The brand obtained recognition in the American market and then throughout the world, to such an extent that exports represented 80% of its sales by the end of the 1990s.
In 1997, ELIE BLEU opened its first shop in Paris in the 8th arrondissement, in the heart of the Paris luxury world in order to provide the best possible showcase for its products aimed at an international clientele of "aficionados"already convinced in the quality of the products.
The 2000s decade marked a new era for the company. ELIE BLEU developed its boxes to be used for watches and jewellery. At the same time, it developed products designed for luxury watches such as fitted cabinets with rotating modules for automatic watches. The official unveiling took place at the Basel Show in 2005.The Russian clientele immediately fell in love with the company's products. An ELIE BLEU shop opened in Moscow in December 2006.
At the same time, the ELIE BLEU product range became increasingly comprehensive. In order to complete its desk collection, the company launched its brightly-coloured ripple sycamore pen in the spirit of its fruity line, which has been the company's hallmark for some years.
In addition to its actual purpose, an ELIE BLEU product is also seen as a marvellous ornament The container and the content are equally important. ELIE BLEU receives requests to make furniture including a splendid Macassar ebony cabinet fitted with a hundred rotating modules capable of maintaining the largest collections of automatic watches in perfect condition.
As the workshop had become too small to meet customer requirements, ELIE BLEU moved into a new production unit in 2009. Bigger and more modern, the company equipped itself with the means to respond to the growing demand for top-of-the-range furniture as well as supplying the ELIE BLEU shops, the most recent one having opened in Hong Kong.
2009 proved to be a rich year for the company which was granted the "Entreprises du Patrimoine Vivant" label (Living Heritage Companies).
